Lake Street Dive emerged as one of the most distinctive and sonically adventurous bands of their generation, crafting a vibrant sound that seamlessly blends soulful pop, jazz-inflected rock, and timeless vocal harmonies. Formed in 2004 at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, the band was originally a collective of students exploring jazz and country music. The founding quartet consisted of vocalist Rachael Price, trumpeter and guitarist Mike "McDuck" Olson, upright bassist Bridget Kearney, and drummer Mike Calabrese. Their name was derived from a street of dive bars in Olson's hometown of Minneapolis, signaling their eclectic and grounded approach to music.

The band self-released their debut album, "In this episode...," in 2006, establishing their early jazz and folk-oriented sound. They spent subsequent years honing their craft through relentless touring, gradually evolving their style into a more pop-centric and soulful direction. A significant breakthrough arrived in 2012 when a YouTube video of their vintage-style cover of The Jackson 5's "I Want You Back," recorded around a single microphone on a Boston street corner, went viral, dramatically expanding their audience. This led to a deal with Signature Sounds Recordings and the release of their critically acclaimed 2014 album "Bad Self Portraits," which showcased their matured blend of Rachael Price's powerhouse vocals, sophisticated songwriting, and tight-knit musicianship.

Their momentum continued with the 2016 album "Side Pony," which debuted in the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 chart and earned them a performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. As their sound grew fuller, keyboardist Akie Bermiss joined the touring lineup in 2017 and became an official member, first credited on their 2018 album "Free Yourself Up." This period solidified their reputation as dynamic live performers, leading to appearances on The Today Show and tours across North America, Europe, and Australia. A lineup shift occurred in 2021 when founding member Mike Olson departed, and guitarist James Cornelison joined the ensemble.

Based in Brooklyn, Lake Street Dive has consistently demonstrated artistic growth, releasing the album "Obviously" in 2021 and collaborating with acclaimed producer Mike Elizondo on their 2024 release "Good Together." Their journey from conservatory students to a genre-defying powerhouse is marked by a commitment to musical excellence, inventive arrangements, and a deeply resonant vocal presence that continues to captivate a devoted and growing fanbase.
