Jun Matsumoto
Jun Matsumoto, born August 30, 1983, is a multifaceted Japanese entertainer who has left an indelible mark on the worlds of music, television, and film. Best known as a member of the iconic boy band Arashi, he also built a formidable acting career, most notably for his portrayal of Tsukasa D?my?ji in the 2005 television drama series Boys Over Flowers. His work in that role earned him GQ Japan's Man of the Year Award under the singer/actor category, cementing his status as a leading man in Japanese pop culture.
Matsumoto began his journey in the entertainment industry at a young age, joining the Japanese talent agency Johnny & Associates in 1996 when he was just 12 years old. Before making his debut as a singer with Arashi in 1999, he launched his acting career with a stage adaptation of Stand by Me, where he played the role of Teddy Duchamp. This early experience on stage ignited a passion for performance that would define his career. As a member of Arashi, he not only performed as a singer and dancer but also took on the role of concert producer, demonstrating a keen eye for creative direction. In 2023, following the restructuring of Johnny & Associates into Starto Entertainment, Matsumoto and his fellow Arashi members transitioned under the new agency, with the group operating under an agent contract.
Throughout his career, Matsumoto has balanced his group activities with a prolific acting resume, appearing in numerous dramas and films that earned him a range of awards and nominations. His portrayal of the arrogant yet vulnerable Tsukasa D?my?ji in Boys Over Flowers became a cultural phenomenon, introducing him to a global audience and solidifying his reputation as a versatile actor. He continued to take on diverse roles, from romantic leads to complex dramatic characters, showcasing his range and dedication to his craft. In 2024, he became independent for his individual activities while remaining with Starto Entertainment alongside Arashi until the group's activities concluded on May 31, 2026. With the end of Arashi's collective work, Matsumoto has announced plans to concentrate on his acting career, looking forward to a new chapter as a solo performer in the entertainment industry.
