Josh Kiszka stands as one of the most distinctive and powerful vocalists in modern rock, recognized worldwide as the frontman of the Grammy-winning band Greta Van Fleet. Born and raised in Frankenmuth, Michigan, Kiszka grew up in a musically inclined household alongside his brothers, guitarist Jake Kiszka and bassist/keyboardist Sam Kiszka. Along with Jake, Josh is an identical twin, a bond that has deeply influenced the band's familial chemistry and collaborative spirit. The brothers, joined by drummer Danny Wagner, formed Greta Van Fleet in 2012, drawing heavily from the blues-rock and hard rock sounds of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Kiszka’s soaring, high-register tenor, often compared to the legendary Robert Plant, quickly became the defining element of the group’s sonic identity.
The band’s breakthrough came in March 2017 when they signed with Lava Records, followed a month later by the release of their debut EP, Black Smoke Rising. Their debut single, "Highway Tune", catapulted them to prominence, topping the Billboard U.S. Mainstream Rock and Active Rock charts for four consecutive weeks in September 2017. The band expanded on this momentum with their second EP, From the Fires, released on November 10, 2017, which included the hit "Safari Song". The collection proved to be a critical and commercial triumph, ultimately winning the 2019 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album, a milestone that cemented Kiszka and his bandmates as torchbearers for a new generation of classic rock revivalists.
Greta Van Fleet released their debut full-length studio album, Anthem of the Peaceful Army, on October 19, 2018. The record debuted at number one on the Billboard Rock Albums and Hard Rock charts, while also topping the Top Album Sales chart, powered by the lead single "When the Curtain Falls", which became their third number-one single on the Mainstream Rock chart. Kiszka’s lyrical themes, often exploring spirituality, nature, and human connection, resonated deeply with a devoted fanbase. The band continued their ascent with a second studio album, The Battle at Garden's Gate, released on April 16, 2021, which showcased a more progressive and expansive musical direction. Their third studio album, Starcatcher, followed on July 21, 2023, further solidifying their reputation as a formidable live act and studio force. In July 2026, the band announced their highly anticipated fourth studio album, Palace for the People, slated for release on October 9, 2026, promising another chapter in their evolving legacy. Beyond his work with the band, Kiszka has become known for his charismatic stage presence and his advocacy for artistic authenticity, ensuring his place as a leading figure in contemporary rock.
