In This Moment
Formed in Los Angeles, California in 2005, In This Moment emerged as a potent force in modern heavy music, distinguished by the powerful vocals and theatrical presence of frontwoman Maria Brink and the driving guitar work of co-founder Chris Howorth. The band, originally called Dying Star, solidified its identity and name with the addition of drummer Jeff Fabb, guitarist Blake Bunzel, and bassist Josh Newell, who was soon replaced by Jesse Landry. Their 2007 debut album, "Beautiful Tragedy," on Century Media Records, introduced their blend of melodic metalcore and emotional intensity to a growing audience, earning them slots on major tours like Ozzfest.
Building on this momentum, In This Moment released "The Dream" in 2008, which marked their first entry on the Billboard 200 chart. Their sound continued to evolve with 2010's "A Star-Crossed Wasteland," showcasing a heavier, more aggressive direction. A significant commercial breakthrough arrived with their fourth album, 2012's "Blood." The title track became a massive hit, propelling the album to number 15 on the Billboard 200 and earning the band a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance. This era cemented their reputation for elaborate, concept-driven live performances centered around Brink's transformative personas.
The band's chart success peaked with 2014's "Black Widow," which debuted at number 8 on the Billboard 200, and they continued to release ambitious albums including "Ritual" in 2017, which featured a cover of Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight," and "Mother" in 2020. Their eighth studio album, "Godmode," arrived in 2023. Throughout their career, In This Moment's lineup has seen several changes, with Travis Johnson on bass, Randy Weitzel on guitar, and drummer Kent Diimmel forming the core alongside Brink and Howorth in their current iteration.
In This Moment has become a staple on the rock and metal festival circuit, with repeated performances at Download Festival, Rock on the Range, Welcome to Rockville, and Aftershock, among many others. Their theatrical and powerful shows have earned them a dedicated fanbase and accolades, including nominations for Alternative Press Music Awards. With multiple RIAA-certified Gold and Platinum singles and albums, In This Moment maintains a significant presence in the genre, continually evolving their dark, melodic, and visually striking brand of rock.
