Hellogoodbye
Emerging from the Southern California pop-punk scene of the early 2000s, Hellogoodbye became a defining act of the era's internet-fueled music culture, blending infectious power pop melodies with a distinctly earnest charm. Founded in Huntington Beach in 2001 by singer and primary songwriter Forrest Kline, the band initially gained a massive following on the social networking site Myspace, a platform that propelled many artists of their generation to fame. Their self-titled debut EP in 2004, released on the influential Drive-Thru Records label, captured their early, synth-laden sound and helped solidify their growing fanbase.
The band's profile received a significant boost in 2005 through appearances on the MTV reality series The Real World: Austin, which introduced their music to a wider audience. That same year, they released the fan-oriented OMG HGB DVD ROTFL. Their momentum culminated in the 2006 release of their first full-length album, Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!, which featured the breakout hit "Here (In Your Arms)." The song's success, driven by its catchy hook and playful music video, became synonymous with the mid-2000s pop-rock zeitgeist and earned the band a permanent place on countless playlists.
Following extensive touring, Hellogoodbye underwent a period of transition, with Kline becoming the sole constant member. The band's sound matured noticeably on their sophomore album, 2010's Would It Kill You?, which traded in some of the earlier electronic elements for a more organic, guitar-driven power pop and indie rock sensibility. This evolution continued with their third album, Everything Is Debatable, released in 2013 while the band was opening for Paramore on their arena tour. Hellogoodbye's fourth studio album, 2018's S'Only Natural, further refined their warm, melodic approach, showcasing Kline's enduring skill as a songwriter. Throughout their career, Hellogoodbye has maintained a dedicated following, evolving from Myspace pioneers into respected purveyors of thoughtful, upbeat guitar pop.
