Greg Poehler is an American actor, comedian, writer, producer, and attorney who carved out a unique international career by creating and starring in the acclaimed Swedish sitcom Welcome to Sweden. Born Gregory Milmore Poehler on October 11, 1974, in the United States, he initially pursued a path far from the entertainment industry. After earning a law degree, he built a successful career as a prosecutor and later as a lawyer for the international firm Mannheimer Swartling in Stockholm, Sweden. This relocation in 2006, prompted by his wife's career, became the unexpected catalyst for his creative second act.

Inspired by his own experiences as an American adapting to Swedish culture, Poehler began performing stand-up comedy in Stockholm's English-language scene. This led him to develop the semi-autobiographical television series Welcome to Sweden, in which he starred as Bruce, an American accountant who moves to Sweden for love. The show, which Poehler created, wrote, and executive produced, premiered in Sweden in 2014 and featured his famous sister, comedian and actress Amy Poehler, in a recurring role as herself. The series was notable for its blend of Swedish and American humor and featured an impressive roster of guest stars including Will Ferrell, Aubrey Plaza, and Gene Simmons. Its success in Sweden led to an American broadcast on NBC, making Poehler a rare creator to have a show air primetime in both countries simultaneously.

Following the conclusion of Welcome to Sweden after two seasons, Greg Poehler continued to work both in front of and behind the camera. He shifted his focus to film production, founding the Stockholm-based production company Syskon. Through this venture, he produced the Swedish romantic comedy A Piece of My Heart in 2016. Poehler also returned to acting, taking on the lead role of Pete in the 2018 Canadian-Swedish co-production The Girl in the Spider's Web, a thriller starring Claire Foy. His career represents a seamless fusion of his analytical legal background and his creative comedic talents, establishing him as a distinctive voice in transnational comedy. He remains based in Stockholm, actively developing new projects that bridge cultural divides.
