GFriend emerged as one of South Korea's most beloved and resilient girl groups, carving a distinct path with their signature "powerful innocence" concept and intricate, synchronized choreography. Debuting in January 2015 under Source Music with the extended play Season of Glass, the six-member ensemble—consisting of Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB, and Umji—quickly defied expectations. Hailing from a small agency, their early momentum was undeniable, earning them multiple female rookie awards and establishing a dedicated fanbase known as "Buddies."

The group's commercial breakthrough arrived in 2016 with their third EP, Snowflake, and its iconic lead single "Rough." The song achieved a remarkable "perfect all-kill" on Korean music charts and secured numerous first-place wins on music programs, solidifying GFriend's status as a top-tier act. This success was swiftly followed by their first studio album, LOL, later that same year. GFriend maintained a prolific release schedule, with subsequent EPs like The Awakening and Parallel in 2017 further showcasing their musical evolution while consistently exceeding 100,000 in pre-orders. Their 2018 releases, including the critically acclaimed Time for the Moon Night, expanded their artistic narrative, and the group also made their official Japanese debut.

In 2019, GFriend released their second studio album, Time For Us, and the summer-themed EP Fever Season. The year 2020 saw the group embark on their ambitious "?" series, which included two EPs and their third studio album, ?:Walpurgis Night. That same year, they achieved a unique milestone by becoming the first-ever girl group to be interviewed for the Grammy Mini Masterclass. Despite their continued artistic output, the group was disbanded on May 22, 2021, after all members chose not to renew their contracts with Source Music. Members Eunha, SinB, and Umji later reunited under the agency BPM Entertainment to form the group Viviz in 2022.

In a move that delighted fans worldwide, it was announced in September 2024 that GFriend would reunite in 2025 to celebrate their tenth anniversary. This reunion project commenced with the release of the single album Season of Memories on January 13, 2025, followed by plans for a commemorative concert tour, marking a new chapter for the iconic group.
