Everclear is an American rock band that emerged from Portland, Oregon in the early 1990s, becoming a defining voice of post-grunge alternative rock with their sharply observed, often autobiographical songs about working-class struggles and fractured families. Founded by singer, guitarist, and primary songwriter Art Alexakis, the band's initial lineup solidified with bassist Craig Montoya and drummer Greg Eklund. Their raw, energetic sound, blending punk aggression with melodic hooks, quickly garnered a dedicated local following.

The band's major-label debut, "Sparkle and Fade" in 1995, broke them into the mainstream on the strength of the modern rock hit "Santa Monica (Watch the World Die)." This success was a prelude to their commercial peak with the 1997 album "So Much for the Afterglow." The record, certified double platinum, spawned several enduring alternative radio staples including "Everything to Everyone," "I Will Buy You a New Life," and "Father of Mine," the latter a deeply personal anthem that became one of their signature songs. This era cemented Everclear's place as a staple of 1990s rock, with their music receiving heavy rotation on MTV and modern rock stations nationwide.

Following the success of "So Much for the Afterglow," Everclear released "Songs from an American Movie Vol. One: Learning How to Smile" in 2000, which continued their chart success with the hit "Wonderful." The band experienced several lineup changes over the subsequent years, with Art Alexakis remaining the sole constant member. They continued to record and tour consistently, releasing albums like "Welcome to the Drama Club" (2006) and "Invisible Stars" (2012), maintaining a direct connection with their fan base through relentless touring.

In 2019, the classic "So Much for the Afterglow" lineup of Art Alexakis, Craig Montoya, and Greg Eklund reunited for a series of anniversary tours, performing the landmark album in its entirety to celebrate its enduring legacy. Everclear remains an active touring force, with Art Alexakis leading the group as they continue to perform their catalog of 1990s hits for audiences, preserving their status as a resonant chapter in the story of American alternative rock.
