Daisuke Namikawa is a highly versatile Japanese actor and singer whose decades-long career has spanned iconic anime roles, major video game performances, and live-action filmmaking. Born on April 2, 1976, Namikawa began his career as a child actor, a start that would eventually lead him to become one of the most recognizable voices in the anime industry. He is often mistakenly associated with fellow voice actor Daisuke Hirakawa, as their names differ by only a single character when written in kanji, but Namikawa has forged a distinct legacy defined by an extraordinary range. He has portrayed everything from youthful heroes to chilling villains, including Mikage in 07-Ghost, Fay D. Flourite in Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, and Jellal Fernandes in Fairy Tail. His ability to inhabit complex characters is further demonstrated by his roles as the enigmatic Ulquiorra Cifer in Bleach, the menacing Hisoka Morow in the 2011 adaptation of Hunter × Hunter, and the volatile Eustass Kid in One Piece. Namikawa has also lent his voice to a wide array of other notable titles, including Kei Kurono in Gantz, T?ru Oikawa in Haikyuu!!, Kish? Arima in Tokyo Ghoul, Momoshiki Otsutsuki in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, and Dr. Genus in One Punch Man. More recently, he voiced Ch?s? in Jujutsu Kaisen and Kei Uzuki in Sakamoto Days.
Beyond his anime work, Namikawa has achieved significant acclaim in video games, most notably as the voice of Yu Narukami in Persona 4, a role that cemented his status as a leading man in the gaming world. He also portrayed Somnus Lucis Caelum in Final Fantasy XV and Goemon Ishikawa XIII in later installments of the long-running Lupin the Third franchise. Namikawa’s talents extend far beyond the recording booth; he is the official Japanese dub-over voice artist for American actor Elijah Wood and Canadian actor Hayden Christensen, and has also provided dubbing for performances by Leonardo DiCaprio, Tony Jaa, Edward Furlong, and Kevin Zegers. In 2010, he expanded his creative reach by making his directorial debut with the live-action film Wonderful World, which he also starred in. The film featured a remarkable ensemble cast of fellow voice acting giants, including Mamoru Miyano, Tomokazu Sugita, Tomokazu Seki, Rikiya Koyama, Toshiyuki Morikawa, K?ichi Yamadera, Showtaro Morikubo, and Y?ko Kaida. Associated with the agency Stay Luck, Namikawa continues to be a prolific and influential figure in Japanese entertainment, consistently demonstrating his ability to bring depth and nuance to every character he portrays, whether on screen or behind the microphone.
