Abbi Jacobson emerged as a defining comedic voice of her generation, best known for co-creating and starring in the critically acclaimed series Broad City. An American comedian, actress, writer, producer, and illustrator, she built a multifaceted career that extends from improvisational comedy to animation and literature, often exploring themes of friendship, identity, and creative ambition with a uniquely relatable and witty perspective.

Born in Wayne, Pennsylvania, she is the daughter of Alan Jacobson and Susan Komm. Her early interest in the arts led her to study at the Maryland Institute College of Art before she honed her comedic skills at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City. It was there she met collaborator Ilana Glazer, with whom she created the web series Broad City. The digital project’s success caught the attention of Amy Poehler, who executive produced its expansion into a celebrated Comedy Central series that ran from 2014 to 2019. Jacobson starred as a fictionalized version of herself, Abbi Abrams, whose earnest struggles and deep bond with Glazer’s character resonated widely, solidifying her claim to fame.

Following the conclusion of Broad City, Jacobson diversified her creative portfolio significantly. She established herself as a versatile voice actor, bringing to life characters such as Princess Bean in Disenchantment, Katie Mitchell in the Oscar-nominated animated film The Mitchells vs. the Machines, and Nya in The Lego Ninjago Movie. She also took on dramatic roles in independent films like Person to Person and 6 Balloons. Beyond screen acting, Jacobson published a book of personal essays and illustrations, I Might Regret This, and released two coloring books featuring her artwork.

In 2020, she founded the production company Tender Pictures and co-created the fellowship program Prelude with Mieka Tennant. Her most significant post-Broad City project arrived in 2022, when she co-created, executive produced, and starred as Carson Shaw in the Amazon Prime series A League of Their Own, a reimagining of the classic film that explored the lives of women in professional baseball during World War II. The series showcased her continued dedication to telling nuanced, character-driven stories.
