AceShowbiz - Singing spinster Susan Boyle blames her father for her lack of romance - he wrecked her first relationship because he was adamant she was not ready for love. The "I Dreamed a Dream" star, who shot to fame on TV show "Britain's Got Talent" last year, has never had a long term partner and has often spoken of her isolated existence.

Now she's revealed the reason for her barren love life - her dad Patrick warned off a boyfriend named John who got close to the singer when she was in her 20s. In her upcoming autobiography, The Woman I Was Born To Be, Boyle writes, "It was a chaste relationship that never went further than holding hands and a peck on the cheek."

"I was upstairs when the phone rang. My father got to it first. 'She doesnae (doesn't) want to talk to you,' he said and put down the receiver... He wanted to protect me but it did hurt when we stopped seeing each other."
