Johnny Maestro Passed Away at 70

"The Worst That Could Happen" singer Johnny Maestro has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 70. The rocker and doo-wop vocalist passed away in Florida late on Wednesday, March 24. Maestro, real name John Mastrangelo, enjoyed a lengthy career that began as a singer with The Crests, one of the music industry's first interracial bands, in the 1950s.

They enjoyed a big hit in 1958 with "16 Candles" and he went on to form Johnny Maestro and The Brooklyn Bridge after joining forces with local New York band The Del-Satins and another group, The Rhythm Method. Johnny Maestro and The Brooklyn Bridge tasted big success with their single" The Worst That Could Happen", as well as other songs "Blessed is the Rain", "You'll Never Walk Alone" and "Welcome Me Love".

Paying tribute to the late star, Maestro's former Brooklyn Bridge's bandmate Les Cauchi says, "He's considered one of the premier vocalists in rock 'n' roll - and one of the nicest, most sincere perfectionists in music." The singer last performed in January when he took to the stage with The Brooklyn Bridge members in Connecticut as part of The Ultimate Doo-Wop Party event.
