Craig Gillespie, who has also directed 'I, Tonya', is reportedly in talks to take the helming duties on the Warner Bros.-DC Studios project which will feature Milly Alcock in the lead role.

AceShowbiz - "Supergirl" movie continues shaping up with DC Studios close to nabbing a director. Austalian-born filmmaker Craig Gillespie is reportedly in talks to take the helming duties for the project, which has Milly Alcock on board to star as the titular character.

According to Deadline which first reported the news, the plan is to begin filming the "Supergirl" movie for Q4 after they've completed James Gunn's "Superman", which is currently shooting in Georgia for a July 11, 2025 theatrical release. DC bosses Gunn and Peter Safran are producing, with DC EVP Chantal Nong serving as executive producer.

Gillespie is best known for directing such films as "Lars and the Real Girl" (2007), "Fright Night" (2011), "I, Tonya" (2017) and "Cruella" (2021). He also won a Golden Lion Award at 2005's Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.

As for Alcock, her casting for "Supergirl" was confirmed in late January. Sharing the news, Gunn wrote on Instagram at the time, "This is accurate. Milly is a fantastically talented young actor, and I'm incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU."

He went on raving about 23-year-old star's talent, revealing that he was blown away by her auditions. "Yes, I first became aware of her in 'House of the Dragon' but I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for #Supergirl," he continued. "She embodies Kara as envisioned by @tomking_tk, @bilquis and Ana Nogueira."

The "House of the Dragon" star reportedly will headline the upcoming film based on DC comics run "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" by writer Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely. However, there has been report that "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" will not mark Alcock's first appearance as Supergirl. It's widely speculated that she will make her debut as the alter ego of Kara Zor-El in Gunn's "Superman".

The "Supergirl" movie hasn't got a release date just yet.
