The 'Jesus Is King' hitmaker has issued a letter, asking music industry to respect his name change because he considers the moniker given by his parents as a 'slave name.'

AceShowbiz - Kanye West, now known legally as Ye, is requesting that the music industry address him solely by his new name. In a letter obtained by TMZ, Ye's chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, has demanded that streaming services, publishers, lyric websites, and others refer to the rapper as "Ye" moving forward.

Yiannopoulos emphasized that Ye's decision to change his name was not taken lightly. Despite the brand value associated with "Kanye West," Ye considers it a "slave name" and seeks to remove it from all platforms. He stated, "Ye is a Black man in America who wants the right to full self-determination just like everyone else."

Ye officially changed his name in October 2021. He had long used "Ye" as a nickname, and in 2018, he expressed his preference for it, citing its biblical significance. However, his claim that it was the most used word in the Bible was inaccurate.

Yiannopoulos added that Ye's request aligns with his desire for self-determination. "He didn't take the decision to change his name, potentially sacrificing some of the immense value captured by the brand of 'Kanye West,' lightly," he said.

Ye joins a list of artists who have changed their public personas, including P. Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Prince, Bow Wow, and Ke$ha. It remains to be seen whether the music industry will comply with Ye's demand.
