Selena Gomez and David Henrie to Return to Disney for 'Wizards of Waverly Place' Sequel Series

The 'Wolves' singer, who is executive producing the new project alongside David, will once again play her character Alex Russo in a guest-starring capacity in the pilot episode.

AceShowbiz - Selena Gomez and David Henrie are reteaming to bring some magic back for the fans. On Thursday, January 18, Disney announced that the two will reunite to reprise their roles on a sequel series of "Wizards of Waverly Place".

Selena, who is executive producing the new project alongside David, will once again play her character Alex Russo in a guest-starring capacity in the pilot episode for the new series. As for David, he is set to return as her brother Justin. They will be joined by new cast members, including Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele and Mimi Gianopulos.

The official synopsis of the pilot episode reveals that the story will pick up "after a mysterious incident at WizTech, where an adult Justin Russo (Henrie) has left his wizard powers behind, opting for a normal, human life with his wife and two sons. But he gets a surprise when a powerful young wizard in need of training shows up at his door… and Justin must embrace his past to ensure the future of the Wizard World."

Both Selena and David took to their respective social media accounts to express their excitement for the sequel. The "Only Murders in the Building" star made use of Instagram Stories to share the happy news. "We're back," so she wrote in one of her posts.

As for David, he shared a picture of the pilot script. "The Russo's are excited to become a part of your family, once again, but we've grown. 2024, the year magic comes back!" he captioned the snap.

The original series ran for four seasons before it concluded in January 2012. It followed Russo siblings Alex, Justin and Max (Jake T. Austin) who competed in their family wizard competition. Alex won and became the family wizard, but it was Justin who retained his powers as the new Headmaster of WizTech. Max, meanwhile, was chosen to run the family's sub sandwich shop under the tutelage of his father, Jerry (David DeLuise). Also starring on the Disney series were Maria Canals-Barrera and Jennifer Stone.
