The SpaceX founder mocks the band after frontman Billie Joe Armstrong made an anti-Trump remark by changing the lyrics to 'American Idiot' at the 'Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve' special.

AceShowbiz - Elon Musk has ignited a beef with Green Day following the latter's performance at the "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" special. The X owner poked fun at the band for slamming Donald Trump with their hit "American Idiot".

Taking to the micro-blogging site that he owns, the 52-year-old businessman accused the pop-punk band of straying from its roots. He tweeted on Monday, January 1, "Green Day goes from raging against the machine to milquetoastedly raging for it," adding laughing emojis.

Elon Musk's Tweet

Elon Musk mocked Green Day for slamming Donald Trump.

Musk made the comment in reply to an X user's tweet that read, "Green Day tried to prove they're still cool by changing their lyrics to slam the 'MAGA agenda' on TV last night." Agreeing with the original poster, another user penned, "Yeah, they lost the plot."

Another critic mocked the band, "MAGA doesn't want washed-up soy boy musicians who haven't been relevant since the blackberry was the hot new cellphone." Someone else claimed, "Green Day's shift in tone reflects a loss of their original rebellious spirit, turning into a more mainstream and less impactful version of their former selves."

During their performance at the annual New Year's Eve special, Green Day's frontman Billie Joe Armstrong tweaked the lyrics of 2004's "American Idiot" to take a jab at Donald Trump, who is currently vying to become the U.S. president again. Instead of singing the original line, "I'm not a part of the redneck agenda," the rocker sang, "I'm not a part of a MAGA agenda."

Green Day has been a vocal critic of conservative politicians for decades. In a 2016 interview with Kerrang! Magazine, Armstrong compared former President Trump to Adolf Hitler. "The worst problem I see about Trump is who his followers are," Armstrong said.

"I actually feel bad for them because they're poor, working-class people who can't get a leg up. They're just pissed off, and he's preyed on their anger," the singer added. "He just said, 'You have no options, and I'm the only one, and I'm going to take care of it myself.' I mean, that's f**king Hitler, man!"
