Catherine Hardwicke, who directed the first film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's 'Twilight' novel series, thinks the 'Wednesday' actress and the 'Priscilla' star would be 'amazing' to play Bella and Edward respectively.

AceShowbiz - Jenna Ortega and Jacob Elordi have been touted to star in a potential "Twilight" reboot. As the film franchise is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, the original movie's director Catherine Hardwicke has named the "Wednesday" actor and the "Priscilla" actor the "perfect" stars for a possible reboot.
During an appearance on Josh Horowitz's "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, Hardwicke approved the host's suggestions for new iteration of Bella and Edward should the 2008 film get remade. "Is Jacob Elordi Edward Cullen today? Is Jenna Ortega...," Horowitz asked.
Before he could complete the question, Hardwicke quickly gave her seal of approval for the casting choice, saying, "Oh, that would be perfect. I mean, he's amazing. He probably would be Edward today."
"I do think there's a lot of really cool young actors today," the filmmaker added, before agreeing with the host about Ortega possibly playing Bella. "I mean, of course, you just mentioned Jenna Ortega, adding that the 21-year-old actress is amazing," she gushed.
Hardwicke, who directed the first film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" novel series, went on revealing that model Lewis Tan approached her recently and told her he went out for the role of Jacob Black, which eventually went to Taylor Lautner. She admitted of the movie's impact on the stars' lives, "It would've changed anyone's life if they got that part."
The "Twilight Saga" film series catapulted Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, who starred as Edward Cullen and Bella Swan respectively, to worldwide fame. While currently there's no actual plans for a movie reboot, a "Twilight" series is reportedly in the works at Lionsgate TV, as per Variety's report in April.
Hardwicke, however, said she had no idea what the new adaptation will look like. "I don't know yet. Maybe they don't even know," she told Horowitz, noting that the writers' strike likely delayed the series' development.
Sharing her idea for a new take on the beloved saga, Hardwicke said, "For me, it would be fun to do 'Twilight' in outer space." She added, "I would be ecstatic to do that, something totally different."
