After a near-death experience, Cassandra Webb (Johnson) is endowed with psychic abilities that allow her to see the future and in turn connect her to three young women hunted by a villain.

AceShowbiz - Dakota Johnson is an unmasked superhero in the first trailer for "Madame Web". Courtesy of Sony Pictures Releasing, the video introduces the "Fifty Shades of Grey" actress as the titular character, who is a paramedic in Manhattan turned clairvoyant mutant.

In the trailer, Johnson's Cassandra Webb explains how she wakes up with the new superpower after a near-death experience. "I've been having visions," she says as she has been able to see things in the future.

Cassandra uses her psychic abilities to save three young women, who are hunted by Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim). She somehow shares a connection with the three girls, Julia Carpenter (Sydney Sweeney), Mattie Franklin (Celeste O'Connor) and Anya Corazon (Isabela Merced), who are destined for powerful futures themselves.

"If you want to live, you have to trust me," Cassandra tells the three girls, who initially doubt her claims about seeing the future. Cassandra also recognizes Sims as the man from her mother's past. "He was in the Amazon with my Mom when she was researching spiders right before she died," she says.

In addition to focusing on Cassandra and her psychic abilities, the trailer offers a glimpse of Julia, Mattie and Anya in their superhero costumes, seemingly in one of Cassandra's visions.

According to the official logline, "In a switch from the typical genre, 'Madame Web' tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing's most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures...if they can all survive a deadly present."

S. J. Clarkson directs the pic with the script she co-wrote with Claire Parker based on Marvel Comics. Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, Adam Scott and Zosia Mamet also star in the movie, which is set to open in U.S. theaters on February 14, 2024.
