'Sharknado 2' Is Syfy's Most Watched Original Movie

AceShowbiz - "Sharknado 2: The Second One" has set a record for Syfy. The second installment of "Sharknado" is now the network's most watched original movie after gaining about 3.9 million viewers during its premiere on Wednesday, July 30. The movie was watched by 1.6 million people between 18 and 49.

The first installment of the disaster-themed flick, meanwhile, gained 1.4 million viewers when it was premiered in July 2013. About 570,000 of them were adults aged between 18 and 49. Re-runs have been scheduled for Saturday, August 2 at 7 P.M. ET and Sunday, August 3 at 9 P.M. ET.

In addition to gaining killer ratings, "Sharknado 2" had strong presence on Twitter. According to Nielsen's Twitter TV ratings, the Syfy flick generated 581,000 related tweets from 188,000 authors. Meanwhile, there were about 318,000 tweets created by 112,000 users during the previous movie.

Some of the cast members also had fun tweeting about it. Ian Ziering shared a photo of him taking selfie during Sharknado among his tweets. "[One] last selfie," he captioned the funny pic. Tara Reid also joined him, writing, "It's raining flaming sharks in NYC #askTara #Sharknado2TheSecondOne." Simon Pegg added, "It's all very funny live tweeting Sharknado 2 but what if there is an actual Sharknado during the movie. People will think its a joke!"
