'American Horror Story' Season 4 Will Be Set in Spooky Carnival

March 18, 2014 (1:40 am) GMT
Writer Douglas Petrie accidentally confirms the theme for the upcoming installment of the FX anthology series during the Nerdist Writers Panel podcast.

The theme of "" season 4 has been revealed. This time, it's not series creator Ryan Murphy who spills the bean, but writer Douglas Petrie. He let it slip during the Nerdist Writers Panel podcast that the fourth season would focus on a "carnival" theme.

Despite initially saying that he "can't say anything," Petrie accidentally said, "Yes - that was the, it - it does not have a title," when a guest at the podcast asked him about the rumor that the show would be set at a carnival next season. He later confirmed it to host Ben Blacker, saying, "That's the idea, that's very roughly the idea."

Showrunner Murphy previously denied that circus would be the setting of season 4. "I saw those posters. I don't know where people came up with that idea," he told Entertainment Weekly in January. "Sometimes I think its people wanting us to do topics and doing fan posters. No one has completely guessed what it is."

He, however, revealed that the next season would be split over two time periods. "It's a combination of two time periods, with the main one being the 1950s," he said, adding, "I like that we had a lot of comedy in this year, and I like the comic characters, so I think that will remain."

The new installment of "AHS" is expected to debut in October.
