The 'Oblivion' actor insists in a statement issued by his lawyer that what was quoted on the media is 'a gross distortion of the record.'

AceShowbiz - After backtracking his statement that seemed to admit Katie Holmes left him to protect Suri from Scientology, Tom Cruise now set the record straight on the claim that he said being away from home to work on a movie felt like being shipped off to war. He sends a denial through his powerhouse lawyer Bert Fields.
Cruise was believed to have made the statements about the reason of his divorce and his grueling schedule as an actor in a court deposition as part of his legal battle with Life & Style and In Touch. He's suing the magazines for $50 million, claiming that they falsely accused him of abandoning his daughter Suri.
In the deposition, the "Jack Reacher" actor supposedly said of his work on set, "I didn't hear the Afghanistan [part], but that's what it feels like, and certainly on this last movie [Edge of Tomorrow], it was brutal. It was brutal."
But Fields said what the public heard was only part of much longer recorded video. "The assertions that Tom Cruise likened making a movie to being at war in Afghanistan is a gross distortion of the record," he said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. "What Tom said, laughingly, was that sometimes, 'That's what it feels like.' "
"As the video shows, he and the lawyer were laughing at his answer, and, when asked in the next question if the situations were comparable, Tom said, 'Oh, come on,' meaning of course not," the lawyer added. "Tom is a staunch supporter of our troops and would never say that making a movie was even remotely comparable to fighting in Afghanistan."
