Disney XD's 'Star Wars Rebels' Unleashes First Teaser

It's still a year away from "" debut, but a taste of the new animated series has been provided in a form of a teaser. Released on Disney XD on Monday night, October 7, the short promo gives a look at ship sailing over the galaxy while a narrator says, "To battle the empire, a rebel alliance will form, the Jedi will rise and you will know the power of ... The Force."

"Star Wars Rebels" takes place between the events of "" and "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope". It is set in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.

The new show was announced after Lucasfilm pulled the plug on "", which ran for five seasons on Cartoon Network. "Rebels" will debut as a one-hour special on Disney Channel in fall 2014 before airing as a full-fledged TV series on Disney XD.

Simon Kinberg will executive produce the new series and write the premiere episode. Dave Filoni and Greg Weisman are also on board as the executive producers.
