Rita Moreno to Be Honored With SAG Life Achievement Award

The Puerto Rican actress, known for her role of Anita in a film adaptation of Broadway musical 'West Side Story', will receive the accolade at the 2014 SAG Awards in January.

AceShowbiz - The Screen Actors Guild has named Rita Moreno the 50th recipient of the SAG Life Achievement Award for career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment. The 81-year-old actress will be presented with the award at the 2014 Screen Actors Guild Awards which will be held January 18 and broadcast live on TNT and TBS.

"I am simply delighted that Rita Moreno is the 50th recipient of our SAG Life Achievement Award - the most prestigious honor we bestow," said Ken Howard, SAG-AFTRA co-president, in a statement released on Monday morning, July 22. "She is an extraordinarily versatile, talented and generous actor whose career is notable for its courageous choices and for the breadth, depth and quality of her many demanding and commanding roles."

Moreno is the only Hispanic to have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. She's also the second Puerto Rican to win an Academy Award, thanks to her role of Anita in Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins' film adaptation of Broadway musical "West Side Story". Through the same movie, she landed a Golden Globe Award.

Her appearance on TV shows "The Rockford Files" and "The Muppet Show" brought her to win two Emmys. She earned other award nominations through her performances on "9 to 5", "Portrait of a Showgirl" and "Oz". The Puerto Rican singer, dancer and actress currently stars on TV Land's "Happily Divorced".
