Cory Monteith Dead at 31 in Vancouver Hotel Room

The Finn Hudson depicter on 'Glee' reportedly had been dead for several hours when his body was found by hotel staff in his room.

Condolences and prayers are sent for and his family. The "" actor was found dead in his hotel room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia in the afternoon of July 13, police confirmed at a news conference Saturday night. He was 31.

He had stayed at the Canadian hotel since July 6. His body was discovered by staff after he missed his checkout time. Official said he had been dead for several hours. Initial report said there was no sign of foul play. Autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine the cause of his death.

Monteith seemed to be in good spirit days before his sudden death. He went out with friends dining at the Eats At Main Cafe on Thursday. One of his pals even took a picture of him. It was later used as his profile photo on Twitter and it might be the last picture of him taken alive.

After reviewing video tapes at the hotel, police confirmed that Monteith returned to his hotel room alone. His last tweets were on Friday about "Sharknado."

The actor known for his role as Finn Hudson on the FOX hit musical series just checked out of rehab for drug addiction stemming from his troubled childhood. "I am grateful and proud he made this decision," said his girlfriend , who starred with him on the show, back then.

Monteith had been open about his struggles with drug issues. He once said to Parade magazine that he first used drug at 13 and left school at 16. He underwent his first treatment for his drug problem at 19 after his mother and friends intervened. "I burned a lot of bridges," he said. "I was out of control."

"On behalf of the Vancouver Police, I want to pass on our condolences to the family, friends, castmates and millions of fans of Mr. Monteith," Deputy Police Chief Doug LePard said. "As was the case in countless homes, I watched 'Glee' regularly with my daughters, and I know there will be shock and sadness in many households with the news of his tragic death."

"We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person," Fox said in a statement. "He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones."

Condolences are also coming from friends and colleagues in the wake of his shocking death. who guested on several episodes on "Glee" tweeted a solemn note, "RIP Cory Montieth. You will be loved. Always."

Dot-Marie Jones a.k.a football coach Beiste posted, "I have no words! My heart is broken. Cory was not only a hell of a friend, he was one amazing man that I will hold close to my heart forever." Iqbal Theba or Principal Figgins was equally shocked to hear the sad news, "OMG!! My Cory..."

Another "Glee" star wrote, "At this time, please send nothing but love and light. This tragic news still doesn't seem real to me. I love you Cory."

Michele did not immediately react to her boyfriend's death on social media.
