AceShowbiz - The Weinstein Company has unleashed first trailer for "Salinger", the first documentary that attempts to dive inside the very private life of "The Catcher in the Rye" author J.D. Salinger. The video seemingly promises to unveil some unsolved mysteries, including his service in World War II, his love affairs and his works after he stopped publishing his writing in 1965.

Additionally, the trailer includes interviews with people close to the late reclusive author. Among them previewed in it are Martin Sheen, Danny DeVito, Edward Norton and John Cusack. Controversies over "The Catcher in the Rye" are teased as well, featuring Mark David Chapman, whose obsession with the 1951 novel led him to kill John Lennon.

Shane Salerno, who co-wrote the screenplay of "Armageddon" for Michael Bay, serves behind the lens as well as provides the script for the documentary. Also making appearances in the film to share how Salinger has influenced their lives, their work and the broader culture are Philip Seymour Hoffman, Gore Vidal and Judd Apatow.

TWC acquired the rights to the documentary on March 21. "Shane Salerno has created a haunting piece of documentary filmmaking in Salinger," Harvey Weinstein said. "We are in awe of the painstaking detail used in depicting a man who created truly timeless works of literature but otherwise remained an enigma for so many years."

"Salinger" is set to be released on September 6 in the U.S.
