AceShowbiz - Neil Patrick Harris indeed knows how to nicely kick off such prestigious event as Tony Awards. On his fourth-time hosting stint for the show, the 39-year-old actor of "How I Met Your Mother" showcased a special musical performance on Sunday, June 9. Before showing off his singing skills, he started with a jab at a fellow actor.
"Hi, I'm Neil. I wouldn't be here if someone else hadn't passed on hosting. So special thanks to Shia LaBeouf for this opportunity," joked Harris in reference to LaBeouf's abrupt departure from the recent Broadway production of "Orphans" in February after having heated arguments with co-star Alec Baldwin.
With a slew of backup dancers, Harris drew laughs with not only his singing and dancing, but also his jab at Hollywood film "Les Miserables". "On Broadway we don't need extreme close-ups to prove we're singing live," he jokingly said.
The show also featured a cameo appearance from former boxing champion Mike Tyson, who showed up at the stage in his white suit.
Harris did not forget to show off his magic trick in front of the attendees at Radio City Music Hall. At the end of the number, he said, "Well, that's our budget - good night!"
