Tony Awards 2013 Winner List: Cyndi Lauper Wins, Tom Hanks Admits Lose to Tracy Letts

While Lauper's music for 'Kinky Boots' snatched Best Original Score, Hanks failed to win his supposedly first trophy for Best Actor in a Play.

AceShowbiz - The winners of the 67th Tony Awards have finally been announced. Taking place at Radio City Music Hall on June 9, the prize-giving event saw Cyndi Lauper getting emotional as she received her first Tony trophy for best score for her Broadway debut "Kinky Boots", which is a tale of a real-life struggling shoe factory.

"I can't say I wasn't practicing in front of the shower curtain for a couple days for this speech," said Lauper, who felt overwhelmed by the honor. "All right, I gotta thank my mom for sharing all that wonderful music. I wrecked all her Broadway musicals when I was a kid, the cast albums. That's how I learned how to sing, and I want to thank her for sharing the music with me."

Meanwhile, fellow Broadway newbie Tom Hanks unfortunately had to admit lose to stage veteran Tracy Letts in Best Actor in a Play category. Letts' portrayal of George in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" apparently overshadowed Hanks' strong performance as Mike McAlary of "Lucky Guy".

Nominated for 13 categories, "Kinky Boots" eventually dominated the winner list with six wins, including Best Musical and Best Actor. Trailing behind it was "Pippin", which scored four, including Best Direction.
