Following his successful mentoring stint on "American Idol", Harry Connick Jr. may return to the show next year with a bigger role. Rumors circulating that the jazz singer/actor has been approached to join the show as a mentor for the upcoming season and he confirms it.

"You know, they kinda wanted to know if I would be interested in it," he told E! News when met backstage of the FOX singing competition after the May 2 results show. Though he enjoyed his time on the show, he pointed out that nothing had been set in stone as saying, "It's a fun show. It's been talked about before, who knows what'll happen in the future. What I've done thus far on the show has been really fun, so I've had a great time."

Asked about his salary demand, the 45-year-old jokingly replied, "$600 million!" On a serious note, he admitted that scheduling issue would be a problem should he take the gig. "I'm going on tour this year so, like, when would I do it? It's that kind of thing," he said.

Connick Jr. further revealed that he had been asked to be a judge on the show before after mentoring contestants in season 9. "The last time I was here, I was so flattered that they were kind of talking about it," he recalled. "And it didn't work out. There were a lot of things going on on their side and a lot of things going on on my side with just stuff. It's hard to make a commitment like that."

Sharing his vision of an ideal judge, the Daniel Connelly depicter in "P.S. I Love You" said, "I think you need to be completely honest, and I think you need to be diplomatic. I think there's no reason to be mean, but it is called being a 'judge.' You have to judge. That's what you do."

Connick Jr. recently returned to "Idol" to serve as a mentor for the Top 4 of season 12. He also took the stage as a musical performer on the latest results show, which revealed the Top 3 and saw Amber Holcomb being sent home.
