First Look: Philip Seymour Hoffman and Rachel McAdams in Spy Thriller 'Most Wanted Man'

Released during the 2013 Berlin International Film Festival, the still teases a dark and gritty tone of the movie about an immigrant who shows up in Hamburg after surviving a brutal torture.

Anton Corbijn's new film "" has released its very first still during the 2013 Berlinale. The image, coming out online via The Hollywood Reporter, provides a first ever look at its leading actors and .

The photo sees "" actor sitting in a closed, smokey room while his female co-star lies on a bed in front of him. The scene in the picture is not explained but it does give a hint at the film's gritty and dark tone.

According to THR, the rights to "A Most Wanted Man" was represented by FilmNation at the Berlinale and it has been virtually sold out around the world. The film also has and Robin Wright (formerly known as ) in its cast ensemble.

The story is based on an acclaimed novel of the same name by John le Carre. Andrew Bovell pens the adaptation. Set in present-day Hamburg, Germany, the spy thriller begins as a half-Chechen, half-Russian immigrant turns up in Hamburg's Islamic community after he was tortured half-to-death.

The immigrant then seeks to recover his late Russian father's fortune and soon connects with a conflicted British private banker and a young female lawyer fiercely determined to protect the rights of persecuted emigres.

Nothing about the young man seems to add up - is he a victim, a thief or, worse yet, an extremist intent on destruction? All the while, they are watched by the brilliant, roguish chief of a covert German spy unit (Hoffman), who fights to put together the pieces as the clock ticks.

The potential high-profile movie still hasn't got its U.S. distributor. The movie marks Corbijn's first feature film since 2009's "Linear" in collaboration with , and 2007's "" about Joy Division's late frontman Ian Curtis.

As for Hoffman, the actor is up for Best Supporting Actor award at the upcoming Oscars for his role in "The Master". After that, he will be seen starring as Plutarch Heavensbee in "". McAdams, meanwhile, will next be seen in Terrence Malick's "" and Brian De Palma's "".
