Showrunner Greg Daniels says the upcoming January 24 outing marks 'the beginning of the end,' where fans will start to see people behind the fake documentary.

As "" cast are filming the last episodes of the show, details of the series finale are unveiled. According to TV Guide, at least two familiar faces will return to make final appearance on the show in the one-hour finale, and they are and .

Kaling and Novak left the show at the end of season 8, but reprised their roles as Kelly Kapoor and Ryan Howard respectively in the season 9 premiere. Zach Woods will also return as Gabe in an upcoming episode.

Except those returning stars, nothing has been set in stone for the series finale as showrunner Greg Daniels claims, "There's an idea, but it's a very collaborative process. Every time we have a table read and somebody comes up with a better idea than we have in the script, it pulls the story forward a little bit and we have to invent something at the end." He adds, "We do have a goal that we're aiming for, how we get there is changing."

Daniels, however, advises fans to start tuning in to the 12th episode which will air January 24, since it marks "the beginning of the end, where we start to break down what's going on with this documentary and see [the] behind the scenes of who's involved." He explains, "If you look at how many characters we have here and you think that [the finale] will be our 200th half hour, I don't think we are planning on packing everything into the last episode."

Further teasing about what to expect in the remaining episodes, he reveals that "someone is fired" in Episode 15. He goes on dishing, "There's drama, and someone has to pay for it." adds that there will be "some conflict" between Andy and Erin when she's back in town.

On the possibility of returning in the final episode, Daniels stresses once again that it is unlikely happening. Saying that there still aren't "any plans for him to come back," he tells reporters on the show's set, "Steve is very much of the opinion that the 'Goodbye Michael' episode and the story arc that we did leading up to it was his goodbye and end to the show, and that [this season] is the goodbye the rest of the show gets to have."

Still, he promises that "there are still a lot of good things that we have planned for the rest of the goodbyes," and that each character will get his/her own "really good, interesting sendoff."
