Report: Michael Arndt Already Penned Treatment for New 'Star Wars' Trilogy

Words are, the 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' scribe has written 'a 40- to 50-page treatment' for the next three 'Star Wars' films long before Lucasfilm was bought by The Walt Disney Company.

Has "Star Wars Episode 7" found its screenwriter? While it hasn't tapped any director to serve behind the lens, the much-talked-about project reportedly has picked a leading candidate to pen its script and he's none other than Oscar winner Michael Arndt.

Vulture shares the words that the "" scribe has already penned "a 40- to 50-page treatment" for the new "Star Wars" trilogy. He will likely become at least one of the screenwriters that will be hired by Walt Disney Pictures/Lucasfilm before the first chapter of the new trilogy kicks off its production in 2014.

Furthermore, it is said that Ardnt apparently has already written the treatment long before Disney bought George Lucas' company in late October. Rumor has it, Ardnt's 40-something draft will soon be offered to A-list filmmakers such as Brad Bird, Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams. Though it's still unknown whether they would be interested in it, Disney "wants to make sure they've at least tried the biggest names."

Ardnt's camp refuses to comment on the report, and so does a representative for Lucasfilm. "We have no news to report at this time," says a spokeswoman for the studio. Ardnt has become Disney/Pixar's favorite screenwriter. Winning the Oscar for penning "", he's also on board to write "".

As for "Star Wars Episode 7", multiple insiders reveal that the studio aims to bring back Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo to the film. No deal has been set in stone with any of the original actors, though was "open" to the idea of returning as Solo, and & had lunch with George Lucas in August to discuss Episodes 7, 8 and 9.

"Star Wars Episode 7" is projected to hit the U.S. cinemas sometime in 2015.
