AceShowbiz - After words ran rampant in recent weeks that Jim Carrey was eyed to join "Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall", it is now confirmed that the rubber-faced actor has officially snatched the role of The Colonel in the project. Deadline first broke the news before creator Mark Millar took to his site to announce the good news himself.
Explaining that the talks with Carrey happened thanks to Nicolas Cage, who's really good friends with the comedian, Millar wrote, "We've been talking very informally about this for a little over two years now. We didn't quite know what Jim was going to be doing in the sequel, but the entire team loves him to bits and I've been a fan since I first saw him."
"I remember reading an interview with [Steven] Spielberg, a great one back in Empire for a JAws anniversary, where he was saying that Jim would be his choice for Chief Brodie were he shooting Jaws now. He said he could see the brilliant dramatic range Jim had as well as the comedy people knew him for at that time."
The writer went on gushing, "For all these reasons, combined with the conversation we had with him on the phone, I'm so genuinely excited about this. I can't wait to see what he does once the cameras are on," before ending his open letter by writing, "I think this is the closest to starstruck I've been on anything so far. LOVE Jim Carrey. Can't wait to meet him at Pinewood."
Millar additionally noted that he's still looking for one last actor who's going to play Uncle Ralphie to round up the cast ensemble. As of now, the cast include the likes of Aaron Johnson as Dave, Chloe Moretz as Hit-Girl, Nic Cage as Big Daddy, Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Red Mist, Robert Emms as Insect Man, and Andy Nyman as The Tumor.
The original "Kick-Ass", which followed ordinary teenager Dave who set out to become a real-life superhero, grabbed $96.1 million worldwide in 2010 against the budget of $28 million. The sequel will be directed by Jeff Wadlow, who also works to pen the script alongside the first film's director Matthew Vaughn.
