TNT has decided not to pick up the Ray Romano-starring drama comedy for a third season since it fails to gain audience.

AceShowbiz - Appearing among 2011 Emmy nominees cannot help "Men of a Certain Age" survive a cancellation. Just a day after it was announced that Andre Braugher gets a supporting drama actor nod at the upcoming prize-giving event, TNT has made "an extremely difficult decision" to axe the slow-paced male dramedy as it kept struggling in ratings.
"While the show has featured great storytelling and impeccable performances, the audience simply hasn't built to the point where we can continue the series," a spokesperson for TNT stated on Friday, July 15. The show only averaged a 0.4 rating in 18-49 demographic for its latter half of second season.
Soon after the network announced the move, Hollywood took to Twitter to express disappointment. "Treme" and "The Wire" star Wendell Pierce wrote a series of tweets, one of which read, "Unbelievable, MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE cancelled. A Peabody and Emmy nominations carry no weight?"
"Glee" writer Michael Hitchcock also lamented the cancellation, writing "Men of a Certain Age is not being renewed by TNT. It's truly one of the best written and produced shows on television. What a shame." Meanwhile, "Community" actor Joel McHale said, "This sucks. Scott Bakula (co-creator and star) is 1 of the best in the biz."
Additionally, several TV critics have also expressed their condolences. Los Angeles Times writer Steven Zeitchik wrote, "RIP, Men of a Certain Age. Another cult dramedy that couldn't find a broad audience, like Freaks & Geeks for the Viagra set," while Variety's Jeff Sneider said, "MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE was EASILY one of the best shows on TV. This is a dark day for original cable programming. I'm beyond bummed."
