The actress, who plays both Katherine and Elena in the vampire series, said the writers had difficulty in getting Bulgarian right so she stepped in.

AceShowbiz - Nina Dobrev is not only playing double roles on-screen but also off-screen. In an interview "The Vampire Diaries" star revealed that she helped the writing team to translate English to Bulgarian for Katherine's scene on November 11 episode titled "Katerina".

The 21-year-old actress indeed has Bulgarian blood running through her veins. She was born in the country but was raised in Toronto, Canada. "I called my mom, and she and I translated it," Dobrev told Toronto Sun in a phone interview.

On why she stepped up on the plate, Dobrev revealed, "I think the writers had used an internet translator and it was so funny. All those online translators are never right. So we did it. I translated my own dialogue, but I called my mom just to confirm I was right."

The particular episode did not only take her energy behind the scene. "I worked really, really hard on that (episode). I really got to play the four different characters. And it was great to play the innocence of pre-vampire Katherine, when she was just a normal human." She portrays Elena, modern-day Katherine, 1800s Katherine who has become a vampire and 1400s Katherine before she was turned.
