Not Getting Support From Cast, Mel Gibson's Cameo in 'Hangover 2' Scrapped

Though Warner Bros. president Jeff Robinov backed the casting of the troubled actor, director Todd Phillips says the decision was not supported by some cast and crew.

AceShowbiz - It seems that Mel Gibson won't easily get his first movie role after hit with personal problems involving ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva. Just days after he was reported landing a cameo role in "The Hangover 2", director Todd Phillips has confirmed that the plan has been canceled.

"I thought Mel would have been great in the movie," Phillips said in a statement. "And I had the full backing of [Warner Bros. Pictures president] Jeff Robinov and his team. But I realize filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew."

Words are, Zach Galifianakis is among the actors who was not happy with Gibson's casting. Recently, the comedian said in an interview with Comedy Death-Ray Radio host Scott Aukerman, "But a movie you're acting in, you don't have a lot of control - you just show up and vomit your lines out. I'm not the boss. I'm in a deep protest right now with a movie I'm working on, up in arms about something. But I can't get the guys to [listen] ... I'm not making any leeway."

He was believed referring to "Hangover 2" in the statement though he did not mention the title. When Aukerman pressed, "I know you're filming The Hhhhhhhh...," Galifianakis admitted, "It has something to do with a movie I'm working on, yeah. I'll tell you about it later. It's very frustrating."

Mel Gibson was initially set to portray a tattoo artist and "expected to film his role in two weeks." He was supposed to follow in the footsteps of Mike Tyson who has made a cameo appearance in "The Hangover".

"The Hangover 2" is filmed in Los Angeles and Bangkok for Memorial Day or May 26, 2011 release in the U.S. Beside Zach Galifianakis, other original cast like Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Justin Bartha and Ken Jeong are returning to the upcoming comedy.
