'As the World Turns' Makes Its Final Curtain Call After 54 Years

The canceled daytime soap opera taped its final episode in Brooklyn, New York after gracing the television screens for more than a half of century.

54 years and 13,858 episodes after, "" pulled down its curtain for the last time. The daytime show which catapulted the career of , Jennifer Landon, Mary Beth Evans and Larry Bryggman among others has been canceled by CBS and failed to find a new platform that would keep the show going.

In a report by EW, the final episode was taped on Wednesday, June 23 in Brooklyn, New York studios. "While we are sad to see 'As the World Turns' come to an end, we remain proud of the achievements the show has made over the last 54 years and are extremely grateful to the loyal fans who invited us into their homes every day," Brian T. Cahill, senior VP and managing director of TeleNext Media Inc. said.

"There is still much in store for the show's well-loved characters throughout the summer, and although the show will go off the air in September, the remaining stories will honor the remarkable history of 'As the World Turns'."

Although the least watched soap in daytime with 2.51 million viewers in average, "As the World Turns" is a frequent award winner. At the upcoming 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, the soap scoops 13 nominations including Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress in a Drama Series. The ceremony is to be held in Las Vegas on Sunday, June 27.
