Movie

'I'm never going to make E.T. II - E.T. is a closed story,' director Steven Spielberg sets his ground before speculation that he and actress Drew Barrymore are secretly developing sequel came out.

Contrary to the circulating rumor that he and actress Drew Barrymore are working on a sequel to "E.T.", director Steven Spielberg has revealed earlier that he has no intention to do a second movie of the 1982 hit sci-fi film. Revealing Spielberg's real attitude toward any sequel possibility was Slash Film, which pointed out to letters to the editor section in Empire magazine's recent issue that the director guest edited.

When asked by actress Eva Mendes whether he "would ever make E.T. II", Spielberg responded that "Eva doesn't have to worry about a bout with Drew because I'm never going to make E.T. II - E.T. is a closed story." He further stressed, "It had a beginning, middle, and a definite ending, and we had nowhere to take it except to go home with him. Nor did I want to bring him back to Earth for a second time."

Earlier, The National Enquirer came up with the story that Spielberg and Barrymore were 'in talks' to revive the long-dead idea of an "E.T." sequel. The publication went on further quoting a source as saying, "Steven and Drew are being very secretive about this baby. But they want to do this project and work together. Steven has an incredible story in mind for the sequel that will bring E.T. back to earth."

Penned by Melissa Mathison, the original "E.T." is co-produced and directed by Steven Spielberg. It tells the story of Elliott, a lonely boy who befriends E.T., a friendly extra-terrestrial who is stranded on Earth. While attempting to keep E.T. hidden from mother and the government, Elliott and his siblings help E.T. finding his way home.
