'Pooh' Writer Picked Up to Pen 'Wanted' Sequel

Evan Spiliotopoulos, the co-writer of 'Pooh's Heffalump Movie', has been hired to replace original writers, Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, in writing the screenplay for 'Wanted 2'.

AceShowbiz - Sequel to "Wanted (2008)", "Wanted 2", is moving forward with a new writer on board. In an interesting update about the in-development project, it is reported that Evan Spiliotopoulos, the co-writer of "Pooh's Heffalump Movie" and its DVD Halloween spin-off, has been tapped to pen the screenplay of the sequel.

While the original "Wanted" adaptation was written by writers Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, it appears that Universal opted to go strictly with Spiliotopoulos for "Wanted 2". Spiliotopoulos, who also penned the script for Lionsgate Films' "Battle for Terra", is expected to develop the script which is based on a story by Chris Morgan.

"Wanted 2" will be produced by Marc E. Platt and Jim Lemley with Universal production executive Jeff Kirschenbaum overseeing the project. Director Timur Bekmambetov, who helmed the first film, is attached to direct this sequel. It is not known if James McAvoy will return to reprise his role as Wesley Gibson, but words are, the producers are trying to get him back.

The original "Wanted" movie stars James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie. It follows the story of Wesley Gibson, a young man whose lousy life is changed into thrilling and deathly adventures after he is recruited by a secret assassins society, the Fraternity. Since its release in June 2008, it has raked in as much as $341.4 million worldwide.
