Destiny's Child, which also helped open the show Wednesday night, picked up the award for World's Best Pop Group, besting Gorillaz, Maroon 5, Il Divo

AceShowbiz - Girl trio Destiny's Child has been honored the award for World's Best Pop Group at the 2005 World Music Awards, held Wednesday night where they helped open the show. With the honor in hand, the 'Childs' beat Gorillaz, Maroon 5, Il Divo and the Black Eyed Peas, all of whom are nominated for the same category. Meanwhile, Gwen Stefani gets the award honoring her for The Best-Selling New Female Artist, beating Natasha Bedingfield, Ashlee Simpson, R&B songstress Ciara, and former American Idol contestant Fantasia Barrino.

As for The Best-Selling New Male Artist, the award goes to rapper The Game, who with the attainment beats out Rob Thomas, John Legend, Akon and Lloyd Banks. Several recording artists up for multiple honors at the awards show held at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, which will be telecast Sept. 13 on ABC, among others include Usher, who was nominated along with rappers Nelly and 50 Cent for Best Pop Male Artist; Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Clarkson, and Shakira, all of whom competing for Pop Female honors.

There is also Alicia Keys and R. Kelly, vying for Best R&B Artist; Green Day, Coldplay, The Killers, 3 Doors Down, and U2 nominated for Best Rock Act.
