Scarcely commenced their journey in music industry when they hit hard the hip-hop circuit in the mid of 2006, Gnarls Barkley has already soared pretty high as their debut album, �St. Elsewhere�, advanced to number 4 of The Billboard 200 in its eleventh week with nearly 53,000 copies sold. Continuing to hold shows around the States for the rest of July in large cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles, the group tirelessly proceeds to perform in Minneapolis, Detroit, Toronto, Boston, New York, plus Philadelphia while also sets to carry out a private show at Chicago's House of Blues in between throughout the month August as scheduled. In the meantime, several festivals joyously have been waiting for them to bring the highlight to, including those of Japan's Fuji Rock Festival on July 28 also Lollapalooza in Chicago by August 5 before they head for Stradbally, Ireland to pop up at Electric Picnic Festival alongside Pet Shop Boys and The Rapture on September 3.

A great musical collaboration that combines soul, pop, rock, plus dance in a totally unique way, Gnarls Barkley is a hip-hop duo consisting of music producer Danger Mouse (born Brian Burton in White Plains, New York) and a former member of Atlantic-based hip-hop group Goodie Mob, Cee-Loo (born Thomas DeCarlo Callaway on May 30, 1974 in Georgia). The two originally met for the first time when Danger became the opening act of Cee-Loo's troupe in a concert at University of Georgia in 1998 but it was not until Cee-Loo was featured in the remix of Danger and Jemini's song of "What U Sittin' On?" from album �Ghetto Pop Life� by 2003 that the idea to join forces together between them finally came into mind. Afterwards making a handful of recordings for some time, they thus decided to pick up �Crazy� as their first single yet the tune unexpectedly got leaked out in late 2005 before the guys managed to release it officially.

Much to their surprise, the composition delightfully turned out to receive huge airplay on BBC Radio 1 in the U.K. and even was used by the station's DJ, Zane Lowe, for the song of his show's TV ads while later wonderfully was named Record of the Week by Ken Bruce of BBC Radio 2. Good response satisfyingly kept flowing through upon the single's digital release in the country on March 13, 2006 as it instantly debuted on the first rank of U.K. Official Download Chart to then top the singles chart for nine consecutive weeks, equaling Queen's 1975 classic of �Bohemian Rhapsody.� This initial attainment consequently built up the group's confidence to later optimistically launch their first album, �St. Elsewhere�, on April 24 the same year under Warner Music in U.K. followed by the U.S release in May through Atlantic/Downtown Records.

Backed up by the popularity of �Crazy�, �St. Elsewhere� really did not have much difficulty to amazingly go straight to the first spot on U.K. charts while first had to take number 20 on The Billboard 200 before gradually climbing to number 6 in its ninth week on the chart. The single itself gloriously encountered significant rise on The Billboard Hot 100, leaping 9 points from the 15th rank in the seventh week to later secure the second place by the following three weeks. In the meantime, it superbly soared to the top position of singles charts in foreign countries which included New Zealand, Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Mexico, Italy, and Swiss, thereby leading Gnarls Barkley to gain considerable popularity around the globe and so establishing the group to be one of the newcomers worth noted of in hip-hop scene for sure.

Their second album was worked on immediately to catch a September 2007 release. However, member Danger Mouse was too busy with his side project, Underground Animals, that the album will have to be delayed for a 2008 release.
