The Good Lord Bird is a new limited series coming to Showtime on October 4th, 2020. The series is based on the National Book Award-winning novel of the same name by James McBride. The novel tells the story of Henry Shackleford, a young boy who joins John Brown's abolitionist army in the years leading up to the Civil War. The series stars Ethan Hawke as John Brown and Joshua Caleb Johnson as Henry Shackleford.

In this preview clip, we see Henry and John Brown meeting for the first time. Henry is impressed by John Brown's passion and charisma, and he decides to join his army.
