Passenger's cover of the song was released on 20 February 2023 as the lead single from his upcoming ninth studio album, Songs for the Drunk and Broken Hearted. The music video for Passenger's cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart was directed by Frank Lebon and stars Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams. The video is a dark and atmospheric take on the song, with Williams playing a woman who is struggling with a broken heart.
