The Boss is a 2016 American comedy film directed by Ben Falcone and written by Falcone and Melissa McCarthy. The film stars McCarthy as Michelle Darnell, a wealthy businesswoman who is sent to prison for insider trading. After serving her time, Michelle returns home to find that her former life of luxury is gone. She is forced to move in with her former assistant, Claire (Kristen Bell), and her daughter, Rachel (Ella Anderson). Michelle quickly learns that life outside of prison is not as easy as she thought. She is struggling to find a job and make friends. However, she eventually finds her footing and starts to build a new life for herself.
