Whitney's dad arrives and gives Whitney and Alex a belated wedding present of $5,000. He says he invested in a company a few years back and it's finally starting to turn a profit, and he's passing it on to his lovely daughter. Before he leaves, he and Whitney arrange to meet for dinner that night. Whitney begins to think that her dad may be a changed man.
At Low Bar, Whitney decides to give the money to Lily, who needs it more than anyone. Alex is disappointed because he wanted Whitney to use the money to rent gallery space so that she can finally exhibit her photos, but Whitney always seems to have an excuse as to why she can't show anyone her work.
Later, Lily asks Roxanne to hold the money for safekeeping. Roxanne promptly loses the cash. That afternoon, Whitney's father returns and asks for the money back. He says there was a small plumbing mishap in one of his properties, but he'll get Whitney the money soon. This is the dad she remembers. She decides to ask Lily to return the money.
Whitney arrives at Roxanne's apartment to get the money back from Lily. Lily explains that she gave the money to Roxanne. Roxanne is too embarrassed to admit that she lost the cash, so she begrudgingly writes Whitney a check for $5,000.
Whitney arrives at her dad's hotel to find him in an extravagant room with expensive room service. He attempts to lie about how he got the room, but Whitney's not buying it anymore. She feels foolish for believing that her dad could have changed, and she tells him that she's keeping the money to teach him a lesson.
Back at Low Bar, Whitney gives the money to Lily and Lily decides to invest in Mark's bar. She promptly installs an art exhibit in the corner of the bar featuring Whitney's photography. She also begins bossing Mark around because she's an investor now. Mark regrets his decision.
