Ryan and Pam return to the office with a big surprise. Someone is hiding behind a paper with a question mark. He's a man who has ruined employees of all other men. It's Michael Scott! He's welcomed back with applause by his employees.

Now that Michael has returned, he's been treating Pam and Ryan a little better than the rest of the employees. Dwight attempts to hold a secret meeting in the warehouse for the rest of the employees to try to instigate a change. Especially since there has been tension due to Michael, Ryan, and Pam stealing clients from Dunder Mifflin.

Jim feels it's time to warn Michael, Pam, and Ryan to stop isolating themselves from the rest of the team, because Dwight is planning a revolt. The old Michael Scott would try to stop Dwight's plan, but instead, he welcomes the challenge. He's ready to take on all those who have a problem with the return of those from Michael Scott Paper Company.

Casual Fridays have returned to the office and Angela doesn't like it one bit, especially because now she can see Oscar's toes in his sandals. After she complains to Toby, he's forced to crack the whip, starting with Meredith, whose barely-there halter dress has everybody feeling uncomfortable.

Jim wants nothing to do with Dwight's planned coup against Michael, Pam and Ryan. He ends up bonding with Creed, who is hiding out until the drama blows over. To Jim's surprise, both men end up bonding over a game of chess in the break room as chaos ensues in the office.

Phyllis finally breaks and tells Michael how hurt she is that this whole time he called Dunder Mifflin family and then it was so easy for him to up and leave for a new business adventure. Michael feels terrible and asks Dwight to arrange a secret meeting. In the warehouse, he tells Dwight, Phyllis, Stanley, and Andy how sorry he is for his behavior. Phyllis doesn't care about the apology; she's concerned about getting her clients back.

Michael promises the gang that they will have their clients back. But now his concern is not having enough clients to keep both Ryan and Pam on as salespeople, so he turns to Jim for advice. Jim favors Pam for obvious reasons, making Michael want to choose Ryan. Michael is faced with a "classic difficult decision."

Michael calls Pam into his office after dismissing Ryan. Michael tells her he cannot hire her for the job in sales. As a somber Pam is about to leave, Michael breaks out into laughter and surprises Pam with news that he was joking, of course he chose her! Ryan on the other hand, was offered his old temp job back.
