DESPERATE MOTHER'S ATTEMPT TO REFORM DAUGHTER TURNS TRAGIC -- When 11-year-old Paula Weston is found dead of suffocation in Central Park, Detectives Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) and Green (Jesse L. Martin) find that her adoptive mother (guest star Wendy Makkena) had resorted to controversial "re-birthing" therapy to combat her daughter's behavioral problems. As Executive A.D.A Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) and A.D.A Serena Southerlyn (Elisabeth Rohm) learn more about the ritualistic procedure the young girl went through at the hands of an unlicensed therapist (guest star Debra Monk, "NYPD Blue"), they must determine culpability between the practitioner of the debatable smothering technique, and the mother so eager to have the perfect family she dreamed of.
