VAN BUREN RECOILS WHEN NEW EVIDENCE MIGHT PROVE INNOCENCE OF MAN SHE HELPED CONVICT 12 YEARS EARLIER -- Lt. Van Buren (S. Epatha Merkerson) is disturbed when the brother of a man she helped convict for murder 12 years ago now claims that another recently slain man was the real killer. And when she re-opens the case, the police discover that the convicted man's fingerprint match is inconclusive, indicating that the medical examiner (guest star Diana Scarwid) either erred or intentionally manipulated the evidence. While Detectives Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) and Green (Jesse L. Martin) find a pattern of other forensic abuse by the M.E., Van Buren suffers pangs of doubt and guilt over her involvement in the now dubious case.
