ELECTION CONSPIRACY LEADS TO MURDER OF LOOKALIKE IN SEASON FINALE -- When a case of mistaken identity leads to the murder of a struggling business woman, Detectives Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) and Green (Jessie L. Martin) warn the intended victim, investigative reporter Kate Pierce (guest star Kate Jennings Grant), that her life is in danger. Kate's many controversial articles lead to an investigation of a senate election in which machines were tampered with, and ballots were stolen, mismarked, and fraudulently certified--and to a senator and election committee that may have gone to horrifying lengths to secure victory. But the case for the prosecution hits a snag when Kate refuses to reveal her source to A.D.A.s McCoy (Sam Waterston) and Carmichael (Angie Harmon).
