Mary's traumatic incident may be over but she's having a harder time than she thought shaking off the after-effects. It's not helping that in order for Mary to be reinstated she has to allow a department psychologist to follow her around on a "ride-along" so she can observe Mary for her traumatic incident debriefing and evaluation. Adding insult to injury, Mary's multiple requests to get the FBI to clean up the mess they made ransacking her house looking for Brandi's suitcase of crystal meth have fallen on the deaf ears of Agent O'Connor. It's hardly helping Mary's stress level to have the new office administrator, Eleanor Prince, meddling in everyone's business and rearranging the office as she sees fit. Mary winds up giving Shelly Finkel, the department shrink, plenty of fodder to put in her evaluation by blowing up at Eleanor in the middle of the office. Great.
Thankfully, a new case has just landed on Mary's desk, providing a welcome and much-needed distraction from her own troubles. Jerry Royal, his wife and two kids are entering the program because Jerry was growing marijuana in the forests of Northern California for a ring of drug dealers who killed a DEA agent working undercover. It looks like it should be a straightforward MOU briefing until Mary discovers that Jerry suffers from Social Anxiety Disorder so severe that only the thing that can curb it is smoking the pot that he was legally prescribed in California. But since Jerry's no longer in California and is enrolled in a Federal program that prohibits the use of illegal substances, his disorder has returned in full force, making him unable to talk in public-including and especially in a federal court room. After Jerry gets high and falls out of a cherry-picker while working his job fixing phone wires, he starts showing signs of amnesia. Mary, however, thinks he's faking it to get out of testifying. Now how is she going to coax him to speak on the stand without letting him get high?
