Alicia, Will, Cary, and Diane are in New York at the American Bar Association Conference. Alicia delivers a speech about being an "opt-out" mom returning to the workplace, and simultaneously finds herself competing with Will and Diane for a rainmaker lawyer shopping for a new home. As Alicia writes her speech she flashes back to the difficulties she faced in trying to land a job, and how Will saved her. We see clips of them being genuinely friendly back in the time period of Season 1. She and Will run into each other at a diner and have a brief "thawing." Will finds himself in the crosshairs of the investigation into Peter's ballot scandal, so he turns to old ally Elsbeth Tascioni to help him shut it down.
